Produced by Big Talk Productions

Big talk productions are an indepedent british film productions company. They have made Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgram vs. The world and also The worlds End. The company is one of the fastest growing production companies in the UK and have recently been taken over by ITV.  The company was founded by Nira park (below), she is Lilly Allen's mother and produced the companies most succesful film: Shaun of the Dead.

About the film

The film's pre-production and producion took only 4 months. This is unusally short for a professional movie. The actors werer apparently improvising

Promotional methods

In comparrison to Thor: Dark Worlds it is miniscule. It is advertised mostly Social networks. They have a facebook page and can be followed on Twitter. Other then that, there film trailer is on YouTube, but there is basically no commercial adveryisement methods such as: posters, billboards, video ads, merchandise etc. Although they have  made a poster, I have not seen anywhere except IMDB. This shows how small budget movies do not  do  much commercial advertising and mostly rely on free, internet based methods but there are probably a few posters around.

The actors in the movie are not well knowm therefore they have few fans but they are likely to become more well known because they star in Marvel's Agents of Shield. Which is a new TV series that is likely to become a big hit. The film has been shown at Sundance Film Festival, which is often due to a films creativity. This is appealing to "art house-goers", which is an audience of around the age of 30-45, who enjoy indie.

They may be trying to get Young people to buzz about the film. This is because they are screening the film for free to students at some cinemas such as the Hackney Picturehouse. This would make the students tweet and share there thoughts on the film on their social networking sites, further promoting the film. The offer is only available on 14th, which is one day before the release of the film...

The type of marketing and advertisement used to promote Thor 2 around London were as followed:

  • Billboards
  • Underground Poster
  • Posters
  • Newspaper
  • Magazine
  • Advertisement on buses

Also, Thor 2 being advertised online is common. For example, just before a YouTube video, the trailer is introduced which attracts audience. In doing so, they gather as many of the audience they can which will then promote the ad within peers creating a larger audience. Only in the UK, the Thor 2 teaser trailer has managed 15,421,757+ views within the past 6 months of release

A Facebook fan page was created with almost 100,000 likes, which publishes recent news involving Thor 2, images and trailers until the movie is released to keep the waiters engaged.

Following on, a Twitter account was also created. Bringing all online users together, its also promoted by the Avengers official page which too brings all avenger fans together for the countdown.

Webpages, fan pages were a great way to influence and engage the audience to keep people updated if they don't tend to use and form of social media.

My analysis:
The movie is a spin off from The Avengers and is used by marvel to keep the company afloat while they prepare for a larger budget movie. This is because the $15 million is considered modest by Marvels Standards

Trailer

Marvel Entertainment Studios

Thor was made by Marvel. Marvel ar a large company that started out by making comic books, they then went on to making movies. This film follows the relasease of The Avengers, and because Thor is a member of the avengers and therefore, references to the Avengers movie will be made but, Marvel are unlikely to make Thor: Dark worlds a Sequel, it is morelikely to be a spin-off so that anyone can start watching it and understand what is happening.

Marketing

Thor:Dark Worlds has been marketed in many including
  • Posters on Tube, busses and on street billboards
  • video adverts on websites such as YouTube
  • Pages on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter
  • Trailers availble on Video distubutors such as YouTube
  • IMDB
  • Newspapers and magazine adverts, especially national newspapers like The Metro, The evening standard and magzines like Timeout

Merchandise

Above are just a few examples of the items that are sold to promote the movie. The most sales of this type works by fanys buying the items and the labels promoting the movie to there friends and people on the streets. They have also made a game for tablets and smartphones, further promiting the movie. They also have origninal comic books as well.

Overall the target audience can be seen as families. This is because the film's age rating is 12a, meaning that children are able to watch it and also the use of a game appeals to the gaming audience which is mostly 18-25. Also, the childish toy above also appeals to children, which shows that overall, the intention is of Thor: The Dark World  is to appeal to families
